isock - technology goes wooly

Welcome to my blog Knit-tastic!

I hope to keep you informed, if not entertained with the various knitting projects I'm working on - I'm a fairly novice knitter but am quickly gathering pace and getting more adventurous (also addicted) to knitting.

My first project to share is this weekend's creation. On Friday I took delivery of a most beautiful piece of technology - an iphone, so shiny and new..but what's this - no case? This I had to put right. I decided to knit a sock for said iphone, and so the isock was born.

I chose a burgundy/grey creation (the burgundy part was obvious as I help to run a company called 'Burgundy'), the burgundy yarn I used was Patons Smoothie DK and the grey was a DK I rescued from my stash. So I set to work and knitted up a rather cosy little sock for my iphone using a double rib pattern. The result....

It took just 2 afternoons to complete and fits perfectly.

If you'd like knit your own DIY version of the isock then here's how:
Cast on 40 stitches using 3mm needles and DK yarn, knit double 2x2 rib for 27 rows ending with wrong side facing.

Next change to 2 1/4mm needles and switch to a contrasting yarn (continue in same colour if preferred) knit double 2x2 rib for a further 20 rows and cast off.

Sew up the side and bottom with right sides together, turn right side out and then turn over an inch to form the collar at the top. Secure collar down with a couple of stiches at each side.

Difficulty rating: Easy
Satisfaction rating: 5/5 - practical & stylish (well I think so anyway!)

Top iphone tip - check out the StitchMinder app which allows you to count rows completed, pattern rows, repeats and increases all using the rather marvellous iphone, a great knitting-related excuse to have one anyway!
